Situated inside the walls of the formidable São Jorge Castle (and therefore accessible only on foot), the Solar Do Castelo Hotel occupies an 18th century mansion built on the site of the former Alcáçova Palace kitchens. It features two floors, a mansard, an inner courtyard and garden, as well as some Medieval remains, such as the cistern. Inside, by contrast, you will find high quality contemporary design. The 14 guestrooms are atmospheric and beautifully appointed, mixing old elements such as original stone fortifications with contemporary fabrics and furnishings. Each room comes with a balcony overlooking the lovely stone courtyard. Weather permitting, guests can take breakfast in the courtyard itself.
